From the YP – “Be a Part of the Harvest”
The following is the Crosspoint newsletter article for October 2009:
The thing I love about God’s kingdom is that God uses anyone in His kingdom Who is willing to go. There are no prerequisites or required experience to be a laborer in God’s kingdom. When God tells you to go, you just go.
This should be encouraging to those of us who don’t have great communication skills or some great talent to share with the world. Many times we approach working in God’s kingdom as something that requires the right skills and abilities to convince people that they need Jesus. That mindset can keep us from sharing our faith for fear that we will not be eloquent or entertaining enough. But in reality God wants to use the weak people in the world to do His work. That’s an awesome truth of Scripture.
In Matthew 9 for example, Jesus tells us that the fields are ready to be harvested. In other words, the planting, watering, growing has already been done. Now laborers just need to go into the field and gather the fruit. What does this mean for evangelism? It means that the Holy Spirit goes before us, changing the hearts of people before we even share the Gospel with them. It is not about our eloquence or how well we share the Gospel or impress people. After all, we, even in our best moments, are incapable of spiritually transforming a person’s life. The Holy Spirit is the One who does that transformation for us. So then our responsibility is simply to make the Gospel known so people can respond to it.
I pray that God will raise up a generation of young people who aren’t deterred by their age, lack of ability, or fear of rejection, but are passionate about Jesus Christ and passionate about boldly telling people about Christ so the work of the Holy Spirit can come to fruition.
Laboring with You,
Brandon
